A points system will soon replace time-based elite comparisons

β€œYeah, I mean, as far as the course and times thing go, there's a reason why next year is a point system. Like, there's a reason why that had to happen. So, and that reason is you can't compare courses. Otherwise, at this point, it looks like everybody, like if it was still just two times, then everybody would just be like, well, I'm going to go to London and Berlin.”

Station failure late in races suggests a core deficiency

β€œThe first thing I want to say is, tell me, where are you failing at the wall balls? And then I'll give you five or six exercises. The other thing is that this person picked the three most core intensive exercises in a race. So, it leads me to think that their core is lacking. First off, so if I was to give you five or six exercises, go do some kettlebell swings, some toes to bars, some weighted planks, some reverse deficit lunges, high volume, and then various weighted wall balls.”

Limit single-session threshold volume to forty minutes maximum

β€œEver since I've been doing double thresholds with you, Anthony, my highest threshold session, I think I remember there was a week where we did like up to 42 minutes of threshold volume in a session. Now, this could have actually, this could have been leading into my marathon. Something like that, yeah. Guys, that is the most that I've done in a session, 40 minutes, let's just call it.”

Elite athletes should be permitted to race in Open divisions

β€œMy personal opinion, it might be not enjoyed, but my personal opinion is that due to the fact that the open HYROX race, in my eyes is a different race than a pro race. It's a different race, it's a different stimulus due to obviously the loads, the different loads. Anyone should be allowed to race in an open pro and if they make the elite, elite of course.”

Course times are not comparable across different HYROX events

β€œBut if you understand HYROX well, you'll understand that you can't compare a course and a course. I'm not trying to... The first thing I should say here, I'm not trying to justify my time and then my time with Matt Slee on the Saturday night, but it was just interesting to get the comments of like, oh, like the APAC races were obviously slower than both obviously London and DC. Like, sure, yeah, of course they were, as everyone should know, but we all should know that, especially now, like we, you cannot compare a course and another course.”

Catch wall balls at face level for maximum efficiency

β€œI'll be the first to say that I probably catch it sometimes slightly lower than what I should. But when I'm training, I'm always think, I'm always trying to think about catching the ball with my hands at face level. I'm gonna call it face level. But that takes work as well, right? That takes a lot of work, a lot of like technique work and just like mental awareness of doing so.”

Beginners should start threshold training with five-by-five intervals

β€œMy favorite first one is five by five. And that might just be mild weightlifting reasoning, but five by five, it's simple, it's easy, 25 minutes of work, and then in your second session, get to like 20 minutes of work. So like maybe do six by three, so 18 minutes on a machine. So do five by five running in the morning and six by three on a rower in the afternoon.”

Prioritize unilateral strength to combat late-race muscle fatigue

β€œWell, the first thing that I'll say is, it's not necessarily five or six exercises, it's unilateral lower body, like strength, endurance, like lunging for the set, but not necessarily just lunging, split squats and strength, endurance in that position. And then on top of that, like I put it down to like not necessarily doing that at a doing like split squats and sorry, and squats and carries at a higher and higher intensity.”
