Carlos Alcaraz wrist injury causes serious concern
“I completely disagree. I think this is a big cause for concern. It's a right wrist injury. I mean, he's hurt his right wrist. Like he can't practice right now. He's out of Madrid. There's a decent chance he can miss Rome as well. You don't want to mess around with the wrist injury. So I think this is a huge deal.”
“She's, of course, one of the top contenders for the Roland Garros title. And it's not Sabalinka's favorite surface, Clay. So I think she's going into this tournament. It doesn't matter whatever the surface is, she's going to go into every single tournament she plays as one of the favorites. But winning a tournament like this and defending a title like this, as you said, Sam, yeah, I think that can do wonders for her confidence.”
“I'm here in central Tel Aviv, where hundreds of Israelis came to protest against the war in Iran and Lebanon. They held signs with the faces of Lebanese children killed by the Israeli military, and they went into an underground shelter during a missile attack. Protester Shiri Katz said she believes this war is going nowhere, and despite wanting freedom for Iran, she feels it will not be achieved through this conflict.”
“All I can talk about is on Instagram. And yes, books are being cooked. There's some suspicious views to likes ratio, like with too many likes, not in not, you know, let's say 20,000 likes, but only 21 comments. The ratio is askew there. Yes, it's happening. And I will say it does not happen with Nothing Major. We put out a clip that's a total dud. You're going to know that it's a total dud.”
Ben Shelton proves Americans can win European clay
“I think the draw and Kaboli did him a favor taking out Zverev in the semi-finals because Ben Shelton does have a Zverev problem. Doesn't match up well against Sasha. But I'm not surprised at all. He was playing horrendous tennis for his standards prior to the tournament. And he came through in the clutch five times with different weather conditions as well.”

Madrid tournament format faces heavy player criticism
“Francis Tiafoe would play Madrid if it was a week-long event. He doesn't mind clay. I think he's healthy. Like, you don't want to go over there and be in Europe for 26 days, 28 days before Roland Garros and have the possibility of only playing three, four matches. It's crazy. It's insane. It's just mentally exhausting to sit there and do nothing for 26 days.”

“At the Vatican, thousands of Christian faithful are filling St. Peter's Square on this Easter Sunday. Pope Leo delivered the traditional Easter blessing in Latin, asking that God's grace and peace remain with the faithful. The American Pope also addressed the crowd in English, saying 'Happy Easter! May you bring the joy of Jesus, who is risen and present in our midst, to all you meet.'”
“UConn center, Terrace Reed Jr. capped the Huskies' scoring in the 71-62 victory with key free throws in the game's final seconds. This season, Reed has shot a below average 59% from the line, but was determined to change that. Reed said he looked at his coach with 30 seconds left and asked to catch the ball and be fouled because he trusted the work he put in to knock the shots down.”
Defending athletes against online trolls requires a protective parental stance
“Corey Goff got into the Good. Got into the replies, which I think it's since been deleted. But he wrote, I got time today. I guess you didn't see throwing up in the garbage with your egg head. It's so stupid. Like I love that he's defending his daughter. Go feed the trolls, man. Great dad. Like, what but also but also, like, online idiocy is sometimes Yeah. Undefeated. Like, there's a lot of great like, memes are great. There's there's a lot of value. Right? But, also, what has Coco done to ever make us think that she's gonna, like, grandstand on, like, an injury?”
“There's 11 guys in the top 50 with college ties. You got Ben Shelton, Vashiro, Lerner Tien, Sarundalo, the good one, Cameron Norrie, Rinder Kinesh, Nakashima, Gabriel Diallo, Rafael Yodhar, Ethan Quinn, Nuno Borges. And there's a few guys just outside the top 50 with college ties as well. It's pretty damn impressive.”
Capitalism in college sports threatens the survival of non-revenue programs
“I would love Arkansas to tell us why other sports are losing more money and tennis gets cut. That's a very, very, very, like... we've made it a free market. We've made made it basically, we've made it acting inside of the bounds of of capitalism where if you have someone generating money and your sport's not... It's simply if we vote for this thing where people get paid, you can't act shocked when capitalism happens. Like, that's not we're not like, oh my god. How do how could we ever have figured this out? Well, when something's profitable, and I call these universities companies now because that's basically what they are.”
“Look, I do not think he is a threat to Carlos and Janek. I just don't think anybody is, quite frankly. But he is a threat to be a top five guy. I mean, his game is massive, his serve is huge. I think John has talked about it a lot, actually, like getting through a tricky match at early in the tournament, that can catapult you to play some of your best tennis.”
Rafael Jodar represents the elite next generation of Spanish tennis
“Literally three hours later, there is a Spanish player beating top 10 Alex Dimonor, like, in in an hour. Rafael Jodar is a teenager, mind you. A 19 year old from Madrid. I'll I'll I'll tell you this. Like, you look for certain score lines against certain types of players. The demon win was his first career top 10 win, and then currently, he has 17 wins in his first 25 career ATP matches. That's that's silly. That's a better start than Nadal, Federer, Novak, Alcaraz, Sinner, and Fonseca.”

Grinding stroke production is more dangerous than traumatic wrist falls
“I had my left wrist one time, injury. I dove on a match point against Illinois in a long match there, and I landed on my wrist. And so I played the semifinal there against Schutler with basically a chip backhand, and I couldn't I I didn't really do much. It it came back. It wasn't anything that cost me any amount of time, but I think I had to pull out of maybe one event, missed three or four weeks, but it certainly wasn't on the right wrist, and it wasn't because of there there's a difference between, like, if you land on a wrist and you bruise it versus, like, your stroke production is grinding your wrist in a certain way that you can't get away from, which is which is very different. Mine was I landed. There was an injury. It wasn't based on the way I was hitting the ball like a team or maybe a one more team where, you know, your body just couldn't take that extreme stroke production.”
Intense out-of-competition testing maintains the integrity of professional tennis
“I can safely say that we have the most intense testing in all of sports. Mhmm. I love being able to say that. Like, I like it. Is that worth an hour of my day when I was on tour? Yes. Do I do I think, and I don't know this, do I think that most of players want that peace of mind even if it's a complete and total invasion of privacy, pain in the ass? I was fine being inconvenienced to have the feeling of a cleaner sport. So we got a new poll question this week coming off the news of Alcaraz.”
Madrid's stadium design is suspiciously similar to a Chipotle interior
“I hate to say we can predict the future, but if you go back to last week's episode, what did I say the stadium looked like? Oh. What did I say it looked like? You said it looked like a Chipotle. It the stadium, Kahamajika looks like the inside of a Chipotle restaurant. People getting sick from tacos. I don't know. Get your get your hats. Get your tinfoil hats out. Just saying.”

“Almost 80% of Iran's 90 million population use the internet for commercial or social purposes. But now they find themselves digitally cut off from the rest of the world after the government imposed a blackout soon after the start of the hostilities. The Global Internet Monitor, NetBlock, says the shutdown has exceeded all other comparable incidents in severity.”
Strategically vomiting on court can buy a player recovery time
“I remember this is, like, the the shady shit that my mom Mhmm. She's like, if you ever have to vomit if you ever like, it's junior tennis. It's like, you know, you you're playing in, like, San Antonio where it's a thousand degrees and you happen to play 17 matches in a day as a junior. So if you ever have to vomit, go go in the middle of court. It's gonna take at least twenty minutes to clean it up. Your mom your mom said that? Yeah. My mom said that. That's next level. Yep. 100%. That's our upset of the day.”

“Trump said the Iranians were closing in on him, but the US forces found him first. They picked him up, flew him out of Iran. Trump says he's safe and sound, though we don't know exactly where he is or the extent of his injuries. Still a lot of details we don't know. The New York Times is reporting that two US planes landed to pick up the injured colonel and the other troops, but were not able to fly out.”
